Join our professional ACMG Ski Guides on this four day traverse between Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains. Crossing 12 glaciers on a traverse of the Spearhead Range is comparable to the famous Haute Route of Europe. Once past the Blackcomb lifts, the route stays above 2,000 meters, allowing for amazing skiing and spectacular views.

We prefer to take 4 days for this traverse as it allows us to spend more time skiing without the big packs on, and gives us an opportunity to get more vertical skiing in than on a typical 3-day traverse. Canada West Mountain School has been leading this trip since 1985.

Dates:
March 8 - 11, 2008
April 5 - 8, 2008
May 2 - 5, 2008

Trip Itinerary
The following is a brief possible schedule for the Canada West Mountain School 4 day Spearhead Range ski traverse. Many different variables (such as weather, snow and route conditions, group experience levels, etc) may influence the final details and logistics, so the following should be considered a general outline only.

Day 1
Meet in Whistler at 08:00 am at the base of Blackcomb Mountain ski lifts. After a review of current weather and snowpack conditions, plus a thorough gear check you will head up the lifts to begin the tour into Garibaldi Park.

Your first day will likely get you out into the heart of the Spearheads, with camp established close to Mount Trorey. After camp is set up there is usually time for a ski ascent (and descent!) of nearby Trorey or Mount Decker.

Day 2
You will be up early and out across the Trorey Glacier heading towards the high col across to the Platform glacier and your high camp on the Ripsaw Glacier.

Again, more skiing will be done either en-route if the conditions are right, or after camp is set up in the afternoon.

Day 3
From your camp on the Ripsaw you will traverse over and down 6-7 more glaciers through the most complex terrain of the whole trip to end up camped near Overlord peak. This day often includes a ski ascent of Overlord if the conditions permit!

Day 4
Your final day will include a spectacular run down the Whirlwind Glacier and towards Singing Pass for the final ski out to Whistler Village and a welcome break enjoying a post-trip celebratory meal!
