Back in Base Camp again

The team has been up and down the mountain a few times now, trying to get Camp II established, but bad weather has hampered their efforts. They have descended back to Base Camp now to wait until the snow on the upper mountain settles out to make travel a bit easier.

At this point they are still on schedule and have ample time to sit back and wait for the mountain conditions to improve, which puts them in a good position compared to some other teams who are running out of time.

Otherwise the team is doing well, really enjoying the mountain and the people in the region.

Camp I established

John called in today from Base Camp to let us know that the team has spent the last few days establishing Camp I. Everyone is doing well, no issues with altitude or any other concerns. The weather has been holding up well.

The plan is to spend a few days in Base Camp now to rest and recuperate, then they will head back up to C-I and settle in and prepare to establish C-2.

Next updates will most likely be in a few days, stay tuned!

Gasherbrum 2 Update

We have had some technical glitches with our Blogging here, sorry for the late start to the Expedition updates!

So, to catch up, here is their progress to date. They arrived safely and with their luggage as planned in Islamabad on June 15th. After a couple of days of prep, they departed for the overland travel to Skardu. No major incidents, though the van they were traveling in did get banged up a bit on the way! After 20+ hours of exciting travel up the Indus Valley, they arrived at Skardu. Here they finalized all the porters and embarked on the trip up to the Baltoro Glacier and Base Camp.

On June 25th they arrived at the famed Concordia, base camp to K2 and Broad Peak. After a day there, they continued on to G-2 base camp, where they have been resting for a couple of days - acclimatizing, settling in and getting used to the thin air.

John called in today (June 28) and let us know that tomorrow they plan on taking their first trip up the glacier to Camp 1. Everyone is doing very well now, despite an intestinal bug that plagued a couple of them on the trek in, but this is now long gone.

Stay tuned for more regular updates now that we have everything sorted in Blog-land here!
