Journey to the heart of the spectacular Baltoro region of the Karakoram Mountains as we climb Gasherbrum II. The 13th highest mountain in the world at 8,034 meters (26,362'), this mountain is a classic high-altitude expedition and perfectly suited for people looking to climb an 8,000 meter peak for the 1st time.

Prerequisites
While this is a perfect mountain to consider as your first or second 8,000 meter high altitude climb, climbers considering joining our Expedition to Gasherbrum II should be in very good to excellent physical condition; have had previous experience climbing to over 6,000 meters (Aconcagua, Mount Logan, Denali, etc); have considerable mountaineering experience, including traveling on glaciers; and, be prepared to commit to traveling and living in a challenging environment for a prolonged period of time.

All team members will be required to have a medical exam and submit a medical form signed by their physician indicating that they are in suitable physical and medical condition for this climb.

Location
This climb of Gasherbrum II (G2) is in the renowned Baltoro Region of the Pakistani Karakoram Mountains. These are some of the highest mountains in the world, spanning Pakistan, China and India.

The Baltoro Glacier flows down from K2, the worlds 2nd highest mountain, and the region is home to 4 of the worlds 8,000 meter peaks - K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum 1 and Gasherbrum 2. Numerous other 7,000 meter peaks fill the landscape, as well as many notable rock spires and towers such as the Shipton Spire and the Trango Towers.

Guiding Staff
This climb will be lead by our IFMGA Mountain Guide John Furneaux, High Altitude Guide on our 2008 Mount Everest expedition, 2009 Gasherbrum 2 Expedition, 2007 Cho Oyu Expedition, Mount Elbrus and Mount Logan.

Itinerary
The total length of the Climbing Expedition to Gasherbrum II will be 54 days return from Islamabad.

  • Day 1 - Arrive in Islamabad and transfer to hotel
  • Day 2 - Prep day, Islamabad sight seeing
  • Day 3-4 - Transfer to Skardu by private vehicle
  • Day 4 - Day in Skardu to arrange porters and finalize gear
  • Day 5 - Transfer to Askole
  • Day 6 - Begin the approach trek, arrive at Jula
  • Day 7 - Trek onwards to Paiju
  • Day 8 - Stay in Paiju for a rest day
  • Day 9 - Move up the valley to Urdukas
  • Day 10 - Trek to Goro
  • Day 11 - Trek from Goro up to Concordia
  • Day 12 - Trek to Shagharing
  • Day 13 - Arrive at Gasherbrum Base Camp
  • Day 13 - 47 Ascending Gasherbrum II
  • Day 47 - 52 Return trek to Skardu
  • Day 53 - 54 Transfer Skardu to Islamabad
  • Day 55 - Islamabad final celebration
  • Day 56 - Return home

    Logistics
    Everyone is responsible for getting to Islamabad, Pakistan on (or before) June 12th, 2010. The team will meet on June 13th in Islamabad and begin preparing for the trip. From this point onwards all aspects of the trip regarding travel, food and accommodation are taken care of (except meals in Islamabad).

    Participants should contact their travel agents to enquire about obtaining Pakistani visa requirements for travel in Pakistan.
