We have been guiding climbing trips to Mt Kenya since 2001, including ascents of technical and non-technical routes.

Our Mt. Kenya climb is also offered in conjunction with a climb of Kilimanjaro, an excellent acclimatization climb and chance to stand on the highest mountain on the African continent and one of the Seven Summits.

NOTE - The climb of Mt Kenya is often arranged on a custom basis. Please contact our office directly if you are interested in climbing Mount Kenya on your own schedule, we can easily arrange this.

Cost
$4,200 USD
Cost is based on climbing a technical routes on Mt Kenya with a 1:1 guide/climber ratio on summit day.

Costs for non-technical climbs will vary based on number of people registered. Please contact us directly for more info.

Included in the cost of the trip:

There will be a maximum of 4 members per each guide, with a maximum of two guided groups per trip. If technical routes are attempted, the maximum guided ratio on the summit climbing days will be 1:1.

All participants are encouraged to obtain Emergency Travel Insurance and Trip Cancellation insurance. We recommend Ingle International Insurance, for details visit their site here:

Day 1
Meet in Nairobi, Kenya and finalize preparations and gear check.
Day 2
Our second day is spent driving to the trailhead to spend the night at approx. 3,000m in order to start our acclimatization. This drive is an exciting adventure through rural Kenya before transferring to a 4x4 for the long climb up the jungle track to the Mt Kenya Bandas, the huts where we will spend our first night.
Day 3
This day we will hike through the high grasslands on our approach to the eastern side of Mount Kenya. This is a very rugged side of the mountain, with waterfalls, canyons and deep gorges offering beautiful views along the way. Our camp is at a very scenic group of alpine tarns at 4,100 meters.
Day 4
We will traverse up and through Simba Col around to the north side of the mountain to arrive at Shipton Hut, also at 4,100 meters. This will be the base for the team climbing Point Lenana. The team attempting the technical routes on Batian and Nelion may choose to ascend higher to the Austrian Hut at 4,800 meters on this day.
Day 5
Summit day option number 1. We are up very early and on the route to the summit in time for a spectacular sunrise from the top of Point Lenana at 4,985m. Members attempting a technical route will also be heading out very early this day for either Batian or Nelion summits. We will return to the same camp for our final night.
Day 6
Summit day option number 2 in the event the previous day is not suitable for the summit.
Day 7
Extra rest day or bad weather day
Day 8
The final day we hike out via a different side of the mountain in order to fully appreciate the spectacular sub-alpine region surrounding Mt. Kenya. We are then picked up at the trailhead and back to our hotel at the base of the mountain for a celebration!
Day 9
Depart for home or stay for our Masai Mara Safari in Kenya!

Guides and Instructors
Our Kenyan trips are lead by Brian Jones, an Internationally Certified IFMGA Mountain Guide with previous experience climbing Batian, Nelion and Point Lenana on Mount Kenya (as well as guided ski descents of the Lewis Glacier on Point Lenana!). As well, we also work with local Kenyan Climbing Guides and Porters.

This combination of local guides working with a professional Canadian Mountain guide means you will get all the local knowledge and culture in addition to the peace of mind of having an English speaking guide with many years of high altitude guiding experience from around the world (Brian has climbed and guided multiple expeditions to Aconcagua, Denali, Elbrus, Mount Logan, Vinson Massif as well as countless expeditions at home in Canada), advanced Wilderness First Aid training, modern group equipment and medical supplies!
