Kids Rock Climbing

This is the ideal way to get your young kids out and climbing (safely) outdoors. Designed for younger kids and early teens, this is the perfect course for beginners who want to experience the thrill and satisfaction of climbing outdoors on Squamish rock! No previous experience is required.

Courses start in Squamish at 8:00 am promptly and wrap up at 4:00 pm.

Prerequisites
Youth must be at least 10 years of age in order to attend on their own; children younger than 10 must have a family member who is older than 14 accompany them. Non-climbing participants (parents, family friends, etc) are not charged for the course.

No previous climbing experience is necessary. All that is required is a desire to learn and have a good time!

Location
The Kids Rock Intro is conducted in Squamish, BC. Squamish is located approximately 1 hour by highway north of Vancouver. Participants will be responsible for getting to and from Squamish.

Guides and Instructors
All the Instructors on our Rock Climbing programs are Certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and are among the top Climbing instructors and guides in British Columbia. We ensure that you are being taught and guided by the best! Our Rock Climbing program is under the supervision of veteran ACMG Rock Climbing Guide Geoff Creighton. Objectives
Our Kids Rock Climbing Intro camp is designed to get kids out having a good time, while learning the basics of climbing safety and techniques. Instructors on this course are chosen for their ability to motivate young climbers and keep them having a great time.

    Equipment list for Outdoor Rock Intro
    The following personal equipment is required:
    • Footwear - lightweight hiking shoes for approaches to the climbing sites. Please avoid using sandals.
    • Day-pack (big enough to hold all your gear plus climbing ropes and equipment)
    • Outer layer rain jacket
    • Comfortable clothing for outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
    • Sunglasses (optional, but reccommended)
    • Fleece jacket/sweater
    • Sunscreen
    • Personal 1st aid (blister kit, medications, etc.)
    • Misc. personal items (camera, journal, bug repellant, etc.)
    • Drink bottles - minimum 1 litre
    Technical equipment
    (supplied by CWMS but bring your own if you have it)
    • Climbing harness - seat harness only
    • Helmet
    • Rock climbing shoes
    • 3 locking carabiners
    • 1 belay device
    All other technical equipment supplied by CWMS:
  • Ropes, anchor material, climbing rack, hardware, etc.

  • Lunch, snacks and drinks :
  • CWMS does not supply food or drinks, please ensure that all participants come prepared with a healthy lunch, some snacks and water/juice. There are no options for purchasing food once on the course.

  • Please go over this list before the course to ensure that you are properly prepared. Contact our office if you have any questions, and we can suggest places for you to purchase or rent if needed. Keep in mind that you will be spending all of your time outdoors and that the weather can vary from one extreme to the other. The course will be conducted regardless of weather conditions, so prepare for anything!

    Here are a few stores in the lower mainland region that supply good service and quality outdoor equipment. If you need to purchase or rent equipment, please contact the store well in advance of the course to ensure that what you require is available!

    Logistics and transportation
    The Kids Rock Climbing Camp is held in Squamish, BC. The specific meeting point will be determined closer to the course date. Your climbing day will begin at 8:00 am and continue to 4:00 pm.

    All of the logistical arrangements will be included in a detailed pre-course package that is sent out in advance of the course date. As well, our office is available 7 days a week to answer questions and to help prep you for your course.

    Participants are required to arrange their own transportation to and from Squamish for the field sessions.
